Seriously, most random thing ever...I woke up this morning, (ridiculously early because N had to be at school at 6:30 for his field trip) and as I stumbled into the bathroom with the lights off (really bad idea if you're me), "Commitment" by Leann Rimes started bouncing around in my head. Why? I have absolutely no idea. I'm not a Leann fan, but I vaguely remember the song. Bizarre...which makes me think of "How Bizarre" by OMC. That song was fantastical way back when. You're welcome.
I got N to school on time and, while we're still in the parking lot, he says, "Okay, Mom. If you're going to hug me or try to embarrass me, just go ahead and do it now...in private." Direct quote. I took a quick picture to mark the occasion, and we walked inside to total chaos. There were tie-dyed shirts EVERYWHERE, and the noise level was unmatched. As we fist-bumped "bye" like we always do, I gave him this look, and he said, "Fine, but be quick." I squeezed that boy as hard as I could, and took off before I got teary-eyed. Going on a field trip? Not a big deal. Going on an overnight field trip with his school for 3 days and 2 nights? Kinda huge.
It finally kinda almost feels like fall around here. This morning, it was in the upper 50s when I took N to school...and it was only 82 when I left work this afternoon. 82! That's some serious progress. I'm positive that I was still wearing shorts around Thanksgiving last year, so we're getting there. There are lots of things coming up this week, some changes and maybe a story or two... You should definitely stay tuned.
...And then there's B. As I'm typing this, he has just finished taking a bubble bath in my bathroom, using measuring cups of various sizes to rinse corresponding body parts. I really couldn't give you any insight on that one. He dried off, put on underwear and a pair of my Asics, and went to his bathroom to brush his teeth. What a quirky little man...
We went to Rosa's Tortilla Factory for dinner, and as we were sitting there, I looked up and saw...B's dad and step mom. (Living in a smaller community: the gift that keeps on giving.) They didn't see us, and I was totally content not saying anything, but then B glanced over and looked back at me with a gleam in his eye. Needless to say, our dinner for two because a (somewhat awkward) dinner for four: boys vs. girls, or as B said, "Twins vs. Twins." It. Was. Awesome.
I've never been so happy to get home and crawl into bed in my life, except for then I realized I'm not kicking off October by stepping it up a notch on my workouts like I had originally planned. And when I say "stepping it up a notch", I should really say "coming back from hiatus" because that's pretty much entirely accurate. Who works out regularly all fall/winter/spring and then takes a vacation for the summer? Oh, that's right...it's me. The one who always does things in reverse order, just because she dares to be different.
Aubs
I realize I might be a tad partial, but isn't he handsome? My little guy isn't so little anymore...
