After missing the bus (on accident or on purpose) for the majority of the week, the boys were less than thrilled that I sent them on the bus this morning. Actually, N didn't care in the least, but B had a pretty loud opinion about it. N tried to diffuse the situation, reminding B that I have class on Friday mornings, and I have a schedule to keep, too.
I appreciate N so much when he's being kind and helpful. I do not, however, appreciate when he is the instigator or promises things he knows he won't fulfill...like promising to play a certain video game with B, and then going back on his word because he hates that game. That, I could almost handle, but he lies and tells his brother (and me) that he never said it. And that? That just infuriates me.
After an enlightening class, where my professor pulled me to the side and said he couldn't find my paper that I turned in the second week of class, so could I please print another copy and turn it in next week, I cranked the volume up on my iPod, and sang my little heart out. I stopped to pick up some more Granny Smith apples to make a pie for dessert, and went home to clean up and let some fresh air into the house. It was, apparently, warmer in my car than it actually should have been, and I didn't have the heater on. I opened the windows/doors to let some fresh air into the apartment, and the temperature on my thermostat went from 74 to 61 in less than 10 minutes.
I went from being completely comfortable to freezing my butt off shortly thereafter...of course it could have had something to do with the fact that I was barefoot, in shorts and a tank top, but I was entirely too tough to care. As I was walking by the front door on my way to the kitchen, something slid through the crack in my door. I jumped and screamed...at the piece of paper. "You have a package! Please come pick it up at the office at your earliest convenience." Hooray!
I put jeans back on, and since it was almost time for the bus, I grabbed my keys and went to pick up the package/meet the boys off the bus. The women in the office are hilarious. We talk each time I'm in there picking up a package, and a couple of them have noticed where I get packages from: Groupon or Nomorerack...so they asked about it, and I gave them my reviews. When I went in today, one of them was like, "Thank you so much for giving me something to entertain myself with...but I totally get in trouble on these sites." I know what you mean, sister. The other woman told me about how she ordered something, never received it, got a refund, and then got the package two weeks later. Haha, been there. Done that.
I got my package and went out to wait for the boys. I've met them a couple of times, and it always catches them off guard. They're never looking for me, so it's fun to fall into step next to them, and wait to see if they notice. Today, N noticed right off the bat, but B didn't notice until we were halfway back to the apartment. When we got inside, I opened the package and found Monsters, Inc. and Cars. Our copy of Cars has been MIA for a few years, and when Cars 2 came out, the boys wanted to watch both of them. The idea was short-lived, so I never thought about replacing it...but when Monsters, Inc. came out in 3D in December, I realized it would be released on DVD as well. Ours is gone. I have no clue where it went, and it is, by far, one of my favorites. In fact, there's a Monsters University coming out at some point, and that looks absolutely hilarious.
Entirely too much on Disney movies? Not quite. The Little Mermaid comes out in 3D this fall. I. Can't. Wait. Plus, I have children, so I can totally talk about Disney movies at length, and it's perfectly acceptable. Anyway, the boys got Mountain Dew for an "after school on Friday" treat, and it will be the last time they both have it at the same time...or ever. We ran to pick up a couple of prescriptions, and came home to start making dessert/dinner.
Some of our friends came over tonight...friends we don't see too often. We used to do fairly regular family game nights, but when I became singular and they stayed plural and I moved back to civilization and they stayed in the boonies, they became infrequent. As in, not at all. In fact, I didn't see them for two years. But last summer, I got an invite to their oldest son's graduation party (he's in college now...it's so strange, but exciting), and we reconnected. See, they were friends with my ex waaaaay before they were friends with me. They were friends with his first wife, too, and went on a cruise with him and his current wife. I wasn't sure where I fit in the picture, but we still have a great time together, and their kids love (or at least seem to love) my boys.
I wish they could've stayed longer, but it was a really great time. I love having my house full of people...it just feels right. I love to cook and feed the people I care about. It makes me really happy. And I love that my boys have other people to play with and be silly with, and that there's very little need for television (although the Xbox got some use last night) when there's laughter, conversation, and word games on a variety of devices all at the same time.
Tonight, warmed my heart.
Aubs
