One of the things I love the most about my B (and there are so many) is the way he pronounces words. From the time he was just barely talking to now, there have been so many... For example, he would tell me he needed to take a "shy-errrr" when he wanted to take a shower, and both boys would tell me, "I under you stand." when I'd ask them if they understood what I was saying.
But, B? Well...he's 7, and he still has trouble saying a couple of words that he often uses or that we ask him to use because it's hilarious. We're not making fun of him; we all find it hilarious... He can't say "ridiculous" to save his life. It's always been "redonkulus." He can sound it out, phonetically, if I say the syllables and he repeats it, but when he tries to say it all at once, it comes out wrong. What does he say? Re-dic-lee-us. And it's hilarious.
He knows he comes from a somewhat sarcastic family, but that's another one he's always had trouble with. So, today, I said something (completely seriously) and he said, "Mom, are you being startastic?" That one's always good for a good laugh, too. He's pretty good at lightening a mood, even if he doesn't realize he's doing it.
Except, today? Well, my little boy grew up a little bit. He said "ridiculous" the right way, and stopped himself mid "startastic" and corrected himself. N & I both said, "NOOOOOOOOO!" at the same time, and B said, "Mom! I can't do it on accident anymore! I'm so ashamed." Never a dull moment in our car/house.
When we got to the chiropractor this afternoon, I checked my email and found an email from B's baseball coach! N already got drafted to the Giants, and B has been drafted to the Rangers! Not only was he excited about that, but as I kept reading, I read that three of his teammates also go to his school, AND one of them is in his class...the other B! Oh. My. Goodness. When I told B that, he started screeching with excitement. He said the other B is his best buddy. And I think that's awesome.
This morning was "Muffins for Mom" at school, so I got up and took the boys to school. N had to go upstairs to do some work with his teacher, but B and I hung out to eat muffins. While we were talking in the hall, the other B's mom came over to see if we could get together for Spring Break. B was so excited! He rushed into the classroom to tell the other B the news. Those two are a mess waiting to happen!
After we got settled back at home, after a belated birthday dinner at Chipotle with my mom, I went through the potential schedules for baseball (they haven't been finalized yet), and it looks like, with at least one weeknight game a week and Saturday games, practices, batting practice, and so on, we'll be baseball-ing at least 6 days a week. I mentioned that to the boys, and they said it was awesome. And you know what? I'm inclined to agree.
I can't wait for baseball season...but what I CAN wait for is skipping forward an hour this weekend.
As a girl who likes her sleep, "springing forward" weekend is always my least favorite.
See you at the ball fields!
Aubs
