So, today my mom turned 60. She's not really wanting to announce it to the world, but she should flaunt it because she looks fabulous. She was feeling shrimp for lunch, so we went to Joe's Crab Shack for some seafood:
We had calamari for an appetizer, something neither of my boys have ever tried. I told B it was like chicken and he tried it, almost unwillingly. N was a little more agreeable, and then I revealed what it was.
Squid. They ate friend squid. B looked like he was going to vomit, and N deemed it a worthy appetizer. He swore he wasn't hungry when we got there, but he inhaled his fish & chips and was scrounging around for leftovers at the table. He was not, however, interested in my cedar roasted salmon. Good! More for me!
All in all, it was a delicious meal with some pretty great company. Afterward, I took N back to his dad's for a few hours and B and I came home to do some homework and relax. I'm so over this rainy weather...and I know it isn't going anywhere anytime soon, but it would be nice if it would. Stop. Now.
Nothing else eventful occurred over the weekend...aside from me getting super-irritated by something incredibly minor. It's not even worth it for me to go into it.
Now. Maybe later.

It's a Hard-Knock Life
Despite the terrible weather this week, we had to get out today. The roads were fine, but the parking lot in my apartment complex was pretty much like a skating rink, so friends rescued us and we headed to see Annie again.
Most of us had seen it before, so we were able to pay more attention to certain things...like the hemline of Jamie Foxx's pants at the end of the movie because...HIGHWATERS! It bugged the moms. A lot.
But the soundtrack? The soundtrack is awesome, and when we got back to our Ice Palace, I downloaded it and rocked it while I attempted to make some progress in The Virginian. That book will, quite possibly, be the death of me. I mean, it's good, but it's taking forever to get through. I read for approximately 83 hours tonight, and that was only 4 chapters.
Anyway, after the movie, we all came back to my house and discussed movies while we ate queso that I had made and put in the crockpot before we left. We were full of popcorn, but I don't know anyone who could ever be too full for queso. Also, my child doesn't just double dip. Oh, no...he goes big or goes home. I think I caught at least three quadruple dips into my own personal bowl of queso.
(Please note: I did squats, crunches AND wall sits to combat the queso. Swimsuit season is just around the corner, and...ew. I'll leave it at that.)
After our friends left, B's renewed sense of purpose in life was revealed. Anytime I asked him to do something or told him something, he would shake his head sadly and remark, "It's a hard-knock life."
Um, what?! What in the WORLD does his mother make him do that would warrant that statement? Put away laundry? Put dishes in the dishwasher? Set/Clear the table? I'm pretty sure those were just the way of life when I was a kid.
He must be confused. Or joking. Anyway, it was a great afternoon with friends, although I really REALLY missed attending my best girl's birthday dinner. She turned 7 on Friday, and she's one of my favorite people in the world. It's crazy...she was 6 months old a year ago, I swear! I'm super-excited that we get some time (just the two of us) this week while her parents and her brother go to KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP! EEEEEEEE! I can't even begin to tell you how precious this whole family is to me...the adults are such great examples in how to love your spouse, and they're wonderful role models in how to love and raise your children to know and love Jesus. I just can't say enough about them.
Back to Annie...Cameron Diaz was a surprising choice for Miss Hannigan, but she totally makes that movie. I'm not a huge Cameron Diaz fan...in fact, I liked her in "The Holiday," but I'm drawing a blank on another Cameron Diaz movie that I liked that was touching (Not "There's Something About Mary" ish). If you haven't seen the R&B Annie, you totally need to.
Like, now. Or on March 17, when it comes out on DVD.
Okay, then.
